Interests Revised

Back to all Stages

Task

Revise your interests, talents, personality traits, hobbies and existing competences. In this step, one is encouraged to answer some big life questions: Who am I? What I like to do? What skills I already have? What am I good at?

By completing this step, you should be able to:

  • recognize three significant personality traits,
  • name three talents, favoured activities and areas they are good in,
  • employ emotional intelligence, that helps us to understand better our actions and to drive our intentions.

Good to know

Personality trait is relatively stable, consistent, and enduring internal characteristic that is inferred from a pattern of behaviours, attitudes, feelings, and habits in the individual. The study of personality traits can be useful in summarising, predicting, and explaining an individual’s conduct (APA, 2023).

Talent is an innate skill or ability, or an aptitude to excel in one or more specific activities or subject areas. Talent cannot be accounted for by normal development patterns and is often not maximised, as its nurturance requires time, energy, sacrifice, dedication, and resources from parents, mentors, and the talented person. Ideal circumstances for the development of a talent include enjoyment of the talent for its own sake and a clear perception of how it can be exploited to fulfil the individual’s long-term aspirations (APA, 2023).

There is a saying that the key to success is 10% talent and 90% work. The numbers vary depending on the theory and the industry in which success is planned, but it’s a good starting point. Guess what makes up 90%?

Time, effort, inspiration, gathering information, analyzing, drawing conclusions, making decisions, giving up something for a chosen goal > prioritising , etc. The path is never the same, it is not monotonous. Learn not to be compromised by difficulties, rather use them for your benefit.

Tools

The time for each activity depends on the specifics of the situation. The description indicates the minimum estimate, which can be adjusted according to the possibilities.

It is advised not to change the order of the tools. If you have to choose only one of the tools, we recommend N# 3 “Interests Revised” before giving a brief insight into personality traits.
